A couple weeks ago he received his report card for the first semester. He did not immediately show to me because when I got home that Thursday night, he was leaving for practice and the next day was a PA Day so I didn't see either of them before leaving for work.
When I finally looked at it on the weekend, I have to admit that I was pretty impressed. He got all his credits for the subjects he took...and the marks were all in the 80's. If you knew this kid throughout Elementary School you would understand why this is a surprise.
Tonight I had to go see the teachers for an early intervention of his second semester. Math and English are on the list this semester, so I was a bit worried. Last year he had a really hard time in the English class and to make matters worse, his assignments weren't always completed, or handed in on time.
First was the Math teacher - "Before we begin, I have to tell what a polite and respectful boy Aaron is. It is a pleasure teaching him and he is always very respectful of me". Yep, that sounds like the kid I am raising! "He is working hard in class and so far so good". She went on to explain how she runs the class and our meeting is over.
Next stop, English, which I was really worried about. I sit down and again I hear that he is a good boy, polite and respectful. Then I told her that English is his weakest subject and he had a difficult time last year so I am willing to do whatever it takes to help him this year. "He is doing well in class". What!!! "He has been working hard in class and handing in his assignments, but they're not all marked as yet". She must have seen the surprise on my face because she asked if I was alright. I explained what happened last year and then she brought out her records to show me that he has been scoring 9/10 and 10/10 on his tests. Whose kid is she talking about? She went on to say that he is one of the few kids in the class who had the ISU almost completed and it is due on April 2 (next week). Is he behind on anything? "No, every assignment is completed and handed in". I am still sitting there trying to understand what is going on here and she assures me that he is on the right track.
I left the school and drove home, still in shock. I explain what the teachers said to Andy and he is also surprised. A bit later when Aaron woke up from his nap, I said nothing about what the teachers said to me and I asked, 'so you want to tell me what is going on in school, in your English class?" The response I got would break anyone's heart! "Mom, I told you I would improve...and I did. I didn't tell you anything about my English class because I wanted it to be a surprise when you met my teacher."
On top of everything else he has going on, this kid never stops amazing me...
